About the EarthBound Funktastic Gameplay

About the EBFGP:

The EarthBound Funktastic Gameplay event (EBFGP) first started in 1999. The idea was to get Starmen.Net visitors to play EarthBound again -- to "get back in the game".

The reason for this? Even with the huge fanbase at Starmen.Net, there are still many visitors that either haven't played EarthBound in a long time, never completed the game, or never played the game at all.

We hold EBFGP events about once a year usually in the summer when people have more free time. The idea is that all the participants play the game at once, uniformly, right up until the end.

How it Works:

The EBFGP will be updated once a day, everyday, except on Sundays. Sundays are the designated "catch up day". If people fall behind, they can hurry ahead and catch up with us on these days.

The event is divided into 25 "game play points" (GPPs). Each GPP has an starting and ending point, and when you get to the ending point, you save the game and wait until the following GPP.

This might not sound very fun, but each GPP also includes challenges, trivia questions which can earn you prizes, and more. But what's most fun of all is talking about the game with other participants in the EBFGP forum!

But it's important to note that the EBFGP is NOT A CONTEST. The goal is to get people playing EarthBound in new, unique ways :)

About Challenges:

With each GPP are daily challenges. These aren't mandatory, but they're there to make things more interesting for seasoned veterans of the game.

Some challenges contradict each other. One challenge might be to defeat a boss at Level 30 while another challenge is to beat the boss at Level 50 or higher. In those situations, choose whichever one you want. The challenges are meant to be cherry-picked individually, not taken as a whole.

New to this year's GPP are the 1/128 rare item challenges. In EarthBound, some enemies drop rare items 1/128 of the time. It takes patience, luck, and strategy to get these items. See how many 1/128 items you can get by the end of the game!

About Trivia:

Each GPP has a trivia question about stuff you might encounter in that GPP. If you think you know the answer, send it to wii@starmen.net.

If you get it right, you could win stuff! The exact prizes are being finalized right now, but there could be some good stuff in there!

The answer to each trivia question is posted the following day. Check the archive page to see past GPP pages, trivia questions, and trivia answers.
