EarthBound Funktastic Gameplay

EBFGP Index:

EB Quote:

"I want to see the city, and I want to smell like the big city. I'm a real urban-type of guy." - Guy in Threed

Today's Gameplay Point:

Go knock on your neighbor's door, and see if they congratulate you. There's not much "action" in this GPP, in terms of fighting enemies, and twarting evil, but there still a lot of stuff you can do (esspecially if you do the challenges). First you're going to have to leave Saturn Valley to Threed. Once you reach the traffic jam in Dusty Dunes desert, continue on to Fourside to see the kind of cruddy Runaway Five show. Finally, return to the miner's house and save the game. You can fight the Guardian moles later.

Today's Challenges:

  • Fight 5 Criminal Caterpillars
  • Fight each type of Desert creature too.
  • Collect every item that can be found in the desert.
  • Talk to the Seasme Seeds.
  • If you get sunstroke, only use wet towels to heal yourself.
  • Fight a Criminal Caterpillar and win WITHOUT sneaking up from behind and getting an instant win.

Mother 2 Factoids:

And, uh, DUDE! WHERE'S MY CAR?! When Tomato first saw this part of Mother 2, he thought that the Japanese writers made some weird mistakes, since the syllables are mixed up in some places. But apparently this is a part of Japanese slang. This makes the guy look like a total dolt and stuff. So it was obviously intentional. But for some reason he gets girls from both towns. WHY?!

Thanks to Tomato for providing this Mother 2 information! Visit his Mother 2 to EarthBound and Back Again translation site for more Mother 2 to EB comparisons!

Gameplay Hints/Tips:

GIMME GIMME GIMME Here's a few tips that'll help you with the rest of the game. First, go to the Threed hospital. If you look in the first room there'll be a drawer. Check it out, and you'll find the Insignificant Item. Go back to Twoson (the busses work now), and go to the Twoson hospital. There'll be a man on the first floor on the top. Give him the Insignificant Item, and he'll give you the Magic Truffle! It's only practical to use for Paula right now, so use it wisely. Secondly, if you come across a Criminal Caterpillar, make sure you fight it! He's a very tough enemy however. But the EXP you earn is well worth it.
